How Re-scribe works.

Short guides for each part of the job. Signed in? Your projects are under Projects.

Preparing your files

Make one project per programme or episode. Each project takes:

Programme video
MP4, MOV or M4V. The final cut, with picture and sound locked, so the gaps in the dialogue do not move. The upload size limit is shown on the upload panel; large files resume if your connection drops.
Dialogue stem (recommended)
A WAV of the dialogue only, without music or effects, the same length as the video. It gives a cleaner transcript and more accurate gaps for description. Without it, Re-scribe works from the programme mix.
Cast sheet
Add each character's name, any other names they are called, a short description, and when they first appear. Re-scribe uses it to name people correctly and not before the programme introduces them.

17 languages are ready now, Indian languages first (Hindi, English (India), Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, English (US), English (UK), Spanish (Latin America), French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), Italian, Indonesian), and 14 more are in Beta: see all languages. Choose the programme's language, and the language you want the description or captions in, when you create the project.

What the tiers mean

Audio description comes in four tiers. They differ in how much is described and how much a person checks before you receive it. You start Tier 1 yourself; Tiers 2 to 4 include review by our team and are arranged with us. Prices are on the pricing page.

  • Tier 1 ₹120/min

AI draft. Library and catalogue titles where essential description is enough.

  • Tier 2 ₹250/min

AI draft with a spot check. Series, films and new programming.

  • Tier 3 ₹450/min

Reviewed by a describer. Titles going to air or to a platform.

  • Tier 4 ₹1,800/min

Studio. Premium films and flagship releases.

Closed captions have one price for all content: timed closed captions from the dialogue, as SRT, WebVTT and TTML. Every AD tier can be ordered as a script, as script and AD audio, or as script, audio and a mixed MP4.

Using the review room

Open a job to enter the review room: the player on one side, the AD lines on the other, and a timeline with each line in its slot. Click a line's timecode to jump the picture to it.

  • Edit. Change the words of any line and save. Saving marks that line's audio as out of date.
  • Re-voice. Press “Re-voice this line” to make new audio for just that line, in the house voice. The rest of the track is untouched.
  • Approve or flag. Mark each line Approved or Needs fix. Re-scribe also flags lines itself: an unknown name, a name used too early, a line too long for its slot, low confidence.
  • Notes. Press N to leave a note at the current timecode for your team or our reviewers. Resolve notes when they are dealt with.

Keys Space play or pause · J back 5 s · K pause · L play or faster · N note · Ctrl+Enter save a line · Esc cancel

Human QC

Add Human QC when you start a job and an Asanga reviewer checks every line in the same review room, leaving notes and fixes you can see. It is priced per programme minute, on top of the job.

  • Standard, ₹150 a minute: done within 72 hours of the AI draft being ready.
  • Express, ₹225 a minute: done within 24 hours of the AI draft being ready. If it is late, you are charged the Standard price instead.

The job page shows the due time and whether the review is on time.

Exports

Files appear on the job page as each stage finishes. What you get depends on the job:

  • Captions · SRT
  • Captions · WebVTT
  • Captions · TTML
  • AD script · SRT
  • AD script · WebVTT
  • AD track
  • AD mix audio
  • Mixed MP4
  • QC report
  • The AD track and the AD mix are WAV audio; the mixed video is an MP4 of your programme with the AD mix.
  • SRT and WebVTT work in most players and platforms; TTML is for broadcast and OTT deliveries that ask for it.
  • The QC report lists anything flagged for your attention.

Keep your own copy of anything important. See the retention table.

Credit and invoices

  • Buy Credit on the Credit page. Every top-up gets an invoice you can download there.
  • Starting a job holds its price from your Credit. It is charged when the job is delivered, and released in full if the job fails.
  • The Credit page shows your balance, what is held, and every top-up, hold, charge and release.
  • During the invite-only launch, jobs run on demo Credit: nothing is charged and statements are marked DEMO.

Where your footage goes

  • Your uploads, the files we make and your account are stored in India.
  • While a job runs, a few specialist processing services work on copies of your files, for that job only.
  • We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not sell it.
  • You own your uploads and the files Re-scribe makes from them.

Each service, where it runs and what it receives is listed in the Privacy Policy, with retention and your rights.
